History of PA Independent Battery B
Independent Battery "B", Pennsylvania Volunteers was a light artillery battery that served in the Union Army during the American Civil War. The unit was also referenced as the Twenty-sixth Independent Battery, Pennsylvania Artillery, and commonly as "Muehler's Battery," or "Stevens' Battery," after its first two commanders.

The battery was raised in August 1861 by captain Mueller.
It’s artillerymen came from Franklin and Erie counties.
In October 1861 it was mustered into service in Pittsburgh.

Battery B was attached to:
Negley’sBrigade, Army of the Ohio, along with the 77th, 78th, and 79th Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry
In November of 1862 the brigade was reassigned to the Army of the Cumberland.
Battery B took part in the battles of Shiloh, Perryville, Corinth, Stones River, Chickamauga, Missionary Ridge, Atlanta, Resaca, Kennesaw Mountain, Jonesboro, Nashville, Franklin, and numerous smaller engagements.
Battery B was initially armed with six Parrott rifles.
By June 1863 they were using three inch ordnance rifles.
At the end of their service they were using Parrotts again.
